New Mexico's St. James Hotel Haunted

A historic hotel in Cimarron has made the list of TripAdvisor's spookiest hotels, which it released in time for Halloween.

The St. James Hotel in northern New Mexico was built in 1880 and was once known as the Lambert Inn. It has housed a "who's who" of the Wild West, including Jesse James, Doc Holliday and Billy the Kid. Visitors might still see and hear spirits throughout the hotel, according to TripAdvisor.

Room 18 in the hotel remains locked and is said to be haunted by the ghost of Thomas James Wright, who was shot and killed there after winning the deed to the St. James in a game of poker.

One TripAdvisor traveler said he heard a hideous scream in his room at 3 a.m. and claimed there was a vortex or a spiritual presence in the room.
